How do I get the EMSS Safety Passport card?

If you already have an accepted health & safety training qualification you can apply for an EMSS Safety Passport card. Start your application by clicking here

Alternatively you can purchase the National Safety Passport training course, which qualifies you for an EMSS Safety Passport card. Simply go to https://www.nationalsafetypassport.co.uk and buy the National Safety Passport training, either the online or the flash drive version. Go through each of the training modules and answer the exam questions. Once completed, and you have uploaded a photograph that meets our guidelines, you will be registered on the system and your card will be sent to you.

My card has expired, how do I get a new one?

How do I complete a module?

To complete a module you must answer all of the validation questions correctly.

You can retake the module as many times as you need until you have answered each question correctly.

What happens if I fail the validation?

If you fail the validation for a module you will be given three options:

  1. Try the validation question again
  2. Review the training and then try the validation questions again
  3. Exit the module to try again at another time
What is the module pass mark?

100%

You must answer all of the questions correctly in order to pass each module.

You must achieve this for all of the modules in the National Safety Passport training to attain an EMSS Safety Passport card and profile.

When is the course complete?

The National Safety Passport training is complete when:

  • You have answered all of the validation questions for each module correctly
  • You have submitted a photograph for your profile and card
  • Your photograph has been checked against our guidelines and has been accepted
How long does the training take to complete?
The course takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete.
Do I have to complete the training in one session?

No.

If you are taking the online version and you wish to take a break, simply log out. Once you are ready to return to your training log back in using the details you created before starting your training. This will allow you to pick up where you left off.

If you are using the flash drive version shut the programme down correctly to ensure the training you have completed so far is saved. When you return to it, plug the flash drive back in to your computer and pick up where you left off.

When will I receive my EMSS safety passport number?

Once you have completed all of the modules, uploaded your photograph and submitted your information, your registration form will be sent to us for processing.

Registrations are dealt with Monday - Friday 9am - 4:00pm and can take up to 1 hour to be processed, if your photograph is accepted you will receive your passport number within this time.

If your photograph has been declined you will NOT receive your passport number until a photograph that meets our guidelines has been accepted.

When will I receive my card?

If you have completed your training and received your safety passport number before 2:30pm your card will be sent out the same day.

Cards delivered to the UK are shipped Royal Mail 2nd Class (2-3 working days)

Cards delivered to Europe are shipped Royal Mail International Standard delivery (3-5 working days)

Cards delivered to the rest of the world are shipped Royal Mail International Standard delivery (5-7 working days)

If your photograph does not meet our guidelines your card will NOT be sent out until we have received a new photograph.

If you do not receive your card within 15 working days please contact the National Safety Passport support team. If you do not contact us within these 15 days a charge for a replacement card will be issued.

What kind of photo do I need?

Due to the nature of the card all photographs must be verified before the image is shown against your profile.

We are unable to accept an image of another photo.

The photos must be:

  • taken against a plain white, cream or light grey background
  • taken within the last month
  • clear and in focus
  • unaltered by computer software
  • show a close-up of your full head and shoulders (a top must be worn). It must be only of you with no other objects or people
  • facing forward and looking straight at the camera
  • without anything covering the face
  • in clear contrast to the background
  • without a head covering (unless it’s worn for religious or medical reasons)
  • with eyes open, visible and free from reflection or glare from glasses
  • with your eyes not covered by sunglasses, tinted glasses, glasses frames or hair
Can I use a photograph off my phone?

Yes if the image meets with our guidelines.

Due to the nature of the card all photographs must be verified before the image is shown against your profile.

We are unable to accept an image of another photo.

The photos must be:

How big should the photo be?

The photograph should ideally be at least 1000 px high and 700 px wide

My photograph has been declined, how do I upload a new one?

If your photograph has been declined you'll receive an email that contains a web link. Click on the link to upload a new photograph in your account.

Do not log in to your online training account to upload a new photo as we will not receive notification which can result in your registration being delayed.

How do I change the photo on my profile?

Any changes to your profile picture must accompany a new card to ensure the cards photo matches your online profile. This can be done by ordering a replacement card from your online Passport Holder profile and uploading a new photo at /PassportHolder/Replacement.

The cost of a replacement card is £15.00 + delivery.

I've lost my card - Can I get a replacement?

Replacement cards can be ordered when you have logged in to your online passport holder profile at /PassportHolder/Replacement

Why do you need my personal details?

Once completed, our training provides the candidate with an EMSS Safety Passport card which is accepted by sites all over the UK as proof of their knowledge of the EMSS (Essential Minimum Safety Standard).

I already have a Safety Passport, can I get an EMSS Safety Passport card without going through the training?

Yes, we accept a number of existing safety passports.
